Porsche 911 Targa

The Porsche 911 is a car that seems to be sailing out of reach for the average classic car buyer. Prices continue to shoot through the roof. But there are still some good value motors out there if you know where to look. The Porsche 996 Targa is just such a car. They are a massively under-appreciated classic in our eyes.

The 996 was the first 911 to truly break with the past. On the surface it very much looks like business as usual but this is misleading. This was a complete redesign with all new body work. So while it looks like an evolution this was very much a revolution. But the real leap forward was what was hidden underneath. The chassis was completely new and it sported the first water cooled engine to be fitted to a 911. The Targa top version is quite rare and sports a full length roof. It’s also the only model with an opening rear hatch.

The good news is these can still be picked up for around the £20k mark. There isn’t much out there that can compete with it at the price. A brilliant everyday driver that also has the ability to go like an absolute monster. We love it so much we’ve just picked one up for the club. So if you think that a 911 is out of reach, it’s time to think again.
